Who we are looking for:
We are looking to hire a communications manager with a minimum of three years of experience. The
ideal candidate is a confident self-starter, possesses exceptional written and interpersonal skills, can
create compelling content in both English and French, has digital savvy, and is able to manage projects
with competing and demanding deadlines.
In addition, the communications manager must share our commitment to food security and social
justice, and have a clear understanding of, or experience with, anti-oppression work, in order to ensure
that a social justice and anti-oppressive lens is applied to all internal and external communications at
The Depot.
Who we are:
The Depot is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 that works with community partners to
address the root causes of hunger and poverty in NDG and surrounding neighborhoods. We offer over
20 food-related activities around four pillars: share, cook, grow and mobilize. To learn more, come visit

The Depot is working towards creating a stakeholder-informed organizational culture, where
anti-oppression and anti-racism are living and embodied practices. To achieve this, we aim to recruit a
team that is representative of NDG’s diverse identities and lived experiences in order for our work to
be by and for our communities.
Responsibilities / Tasks:
● Create a communications strategy that is in line with the organizational mission, and that supports our
programmatic, development and advocacy goals
● Create and or supervise the creation of all communications materials, both print (annual reports,
fundraising and program materials), online (website, e-newsletters, social media), and other
(PowerPoints, etc.)
● Ensure all communications are in accordance with our brand identity
● Manage, in collaboration with the Executive Director, all media relations, including writing and editing
press reLeases and pitches
● Support the Executive Director with government relations, including drafting position pieces and briefs
● Liaise with vendors on communications projects, from start to finish (for example: designers,
translators or printers)
● Support all teams in their communications-related needs and requests
Qualifications:
● At least 3-5 years of experience in communications or marketing roles
● Fluently bilingual in English and French, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills in
both languages
● Previous experience managing communications for a bilingual or multilingual audience, across multiple
platforms
● Passion for issues related to poverty, food security, social justice, community development
● Proficiency in key communications technologies including WordPress, email marketing platforms,
social media platforms, and monitoring/scheduling tools, such as TweetDeck or Buffer
● Keen visual eye for design, alongside the ability to create simple designs in online tools such as Canva
● Knowledge of Google Suite, CRMs, and/or the proven ability to learn unfamiliar software is a strong
asset
Our Offer:
Permanent salaried position
Full-time (35 hours per week)
Salary : 28$/hour plus health and partial dental benefits as well as RRSP matching
Location: Our office in NDG or from home for 1 to 2 days per week
