Communicaid for Hearing Impaired Persons (CHIP) is the only registered nonprofit organization in Quebec, which serves Anglophones affected by hearing loss, their families, friends, coworkers and the community . CHIP has been providing ongoing programs, services and support to the hard of hearing community in and around the greater Montreal area since 1979, almost 40 years. Many of our team and board members are people affected by hearing loss. We understand and are concerned with the struggles and the difficulties that people with hearing difficulties often experience in their daily lives.
CHIP’s mandate is not only to offer ongoing programs and services but also to connect and inspire those affected by hearing loss, thereby helping to improve quality of life and counter isolation. CHIP’s various programs help to raise awareness about the potential consequences of hearing loss, such as isolation, depression, anger, and dementia, to name a few. As a largely “invisible “ disability, there are many “myths” and misconceptions about hearing loss. Our vision is a community where we can hear, be heard and thrive.
In this position, instructor will work under the supervision of the Executive Director and Program Coordinator.
-CHIP is looking for an experienced teacher/instructor to teach a Computer Course to hard of hearing seniors.
-Candidate will be required to develop a 10 week curriculum with visuals aids about computer use and safety-.
-Candidate with experience teaching individuals with disabilities will be given priority.
-Candidate will be required to complete and hand in papers, evaluations and forms in a timely manner
-The ideal candidate will be able to speak slowly and very clearly with good volume, and will be willing to modify their way of speaking if necessary and will be very aware of keeping their face and lips visible at all times when they are speaking
-The ideal candidate will be very patient, mature, confident, and capable of explaining topics in different ways using suitable teaching methods for seniors. Able to adapt learning methods and material for senior population and people with a hearing loss.
-The ideal candidate will work well as a team and independently, will be organized, have good time management and problem solving skills.

Duration: 10 week contractual
Hourly wage rate : To be discussed, Compensation commensurate with experience.
