Distribution Assistant Coordinator @ Depot MTL

We are currently looking to hire a reliable and energetic person to join our team and help run the emergency food distribution and access program. This position combines both physical and managerial work, requiring someone with a dynamic, calm disposition with adaptability, great organizational skills, good judgment and who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. The person will be working in two programs of the Depot, namely the food aid services (Marché Dépôt) and the Good Food Markets (summer seasonal markets). They will be responsible for coordination, support of a team of volunteers and logistics (inventory management, ordering etc).

About The Depot Community Food Center
Founded in 1986, the Depot is a community-based non-profit organization that works collaboratively with community partners to address the root causes of hunger and poverty in NDG and the surrounding areas in a manner that ensures dignity, community engagement and the development of human potential. At the Depot, we offer programming to support the food security and healthy eating habits of youth, families and individuals. These activities include community meals, kitchen workshops, after-school programs, gardens and farmer’s markets.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
Support the smooth operation of the food distribution service (Marché Dépot):
Manage the set up and operation of Marché Dépot
Help participants orient themselves to our new grocery store model
Orient, train and motivate groups of volunteers and temporary staff
Prepare pre-made baskets and ensure their home delivery

Ensure proper maintenance of our inventory and place orders
Support the reception of goods and follow proper rotation procedures
Be in charge of the collection of donations at Moisson Montréal
Participate in loading and unloading the trucks

Help coordinate and run operations at the summer markets, occasionally be the person responsible when the coordinator is away
Assist the general maintenance team of the building
Take part in related activities of the Depot – meetings, support of other programs

Specific skills and experience required:
Able to work independently and as part of a team in a diverse community environment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Comfortable leading and motivating a team
Must hold a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving a 12-foot truck (or willing to learn)
Excellent communication skills in French and English
Proficient with the Office suite
Capable of carrying out multiple tasks and prioritizing accordingly
Able to maintain smooth operations within the department when the manager is absent
Able to solve problems on a daily basis
Comfortable lifting loads of up to 50 pounds on a regular basis

Working conditions:
Salary: 21$ / hour
35 hours / week
1 year contract with possibility of renewal
