Project Genesis, a community organization in the culturally diverse Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood, seeks a person for a full-time (5 days a week at 35 hrs/wk) one-year contract for the Escouade salubrité project. The project involves leading collaboratively and carrying out individual service interventions with local tenants and follow-ups on apartment health and safety issues. It also involves participation in collective work on salubrité issues among tenants of given buildings when conditions are in place. This work to improve material living conditions is based within Project Genesis’ fast-paced information, referral, and advocacy center. The role involves close collaboration with Escouade Salubrité project staff of another local community group, and various local actors on housing.
• The center offers front-line services in the areas of tenant rights and on social programs, such as welfare, family benefits, and pensions – at the present time by telephone and, when needed, by in-person appointments according to public health measures.
• The position includes: individual interventions on health and safety issues with local tenants who contact Project Genesis or who are referred by other local organizations; carrying out outreach in local buildings to improve living conditions; follow-up on individual situations; team collaboration with the Escouade Salubrité project staff of another local organization working on housing issues; and maintaining data collection related to the work.
• Qualifications: very good oral and written French and English; ability to learn quickly; attention to detail; ability to analyze complex information; ability to work under pressure independently and within a team; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; community sector volunteer or paid experience; individual services experience; some knowledge of social programs and particularly of tenants’ rights. Interest in social rights and in working with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds is required.
