POSITION: Executive Director for CEED Concordia

DURATION: 3 years

Start Date:  April 15th 2019-May 1st 2019 (negotiable); April/May-June 30th transition and on-boarding with out-going Executive Director)

HOURS: 37.5 hours/week

SALARY: $35,000.00 -$38,000/ year (dependent on experience and qualifications)

DESCRIPTION:

CEED is currently seeking a self-motivated individual to guide the program into the next phase of its development. The Executive Director of CEED is the head of the organization in Canada and is responsible for overseeing operations in Canada and supporting the development and success of programming in Uganda. The Executive Director is responsible for planning and executing the work of the organization, and managing the staff, interns, and volunteers of the program. This position requires a high degree of personal commitment, the ability to work under minimal supervision, prioritize and   to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The position also requires integrity and a commitment to social justice. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced, community-led and dynamic environment, this position may be for you.

Please note that this position requires travel to Uganda for a minimum of 3-4 months per year.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Develop and implement strategic direction and organizational goals with the Board of Directors

-Manage office, staff and volunteers (hiring, training, and managing 3-4 staff members, interns, and volunteers in Montreal)

-Work in collaboration with partner organizations

-Develop Gulu-based internships in conjunction with the CEED Uganda management

-Public engagement and promotions – acting as the spokesperson and ambassador of the organization and liaise between faculties and organizations in Canada and in Uganda to create linkages of reciprocal benefit

-Work effectively with a Board of Directors and provide regular reporting

-Mobilize resources through fundraising, donation procurement, and grant-writing

-Participate in the development and implementation of strategic goals and future directions

-Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders – community partners, student groups, faculty and administrationManage day-to-day financial transactions

-Determine performance targets for CEED operations and projects, provide leadership on M&E, community consultation and impact assessments

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:

-Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree

-Demonstrated success and ability to:

—Manage staff and volunteers

–Ability to work with minimal supervision

–Work effectively cross-culturally with partners

–Develop and implement projects

–Fundraise/Write grant proposals

–Organize events and programs

-Previous international work in the Global South

-Financial literacy

OTHER KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

-Excellent communication and intercultural skills

-Understanding complex problems

-Strategic planning and achievement of self-directed goals

-Mobility and flexibility; flexible schedule (occasional evenings and weekends)

-Knowledge of Concordia administration and environment

-Proficiency in French is a bonus, but not a requirement

ASSETS

-Experience in Uganda/CEED and knowledge of East Africa/Uganda

-Knowledge or experience working with a Board of Directors

-Leadership in non-profit, social entreprise or social justice

-Knowledge of curricula development
