A Free Public Conference on the topic:
Transhumanism: Progress or Ideology?
By Guest Speaker
Professor & writer Elisabeth Abergel
Transhumanism is a vast movement aimed at modifying the human species through technology in order to improve, enhance and, overcome the limits of our biology. Enhancements such as life extension, mind uploading, genetic modification, augmented physical and intellectual capacities using pharmaceuticals and prosthetic devices are currently promoted as the tools with which we will direct our species’ evolution. The merging of humans and machines will transform us into trans-biological beings via artificial intelligence, biotechnologies, regenerative medicine and molecular nanotechnologies. Is self-directed human evolution possible? If so, should we fear or embrace transhumanism as a worldview? Can technology emancipate us from our human condition or will it enslave us?
A period of questions and discussion will follow her talk.
