Administration and Finance Coordinator needed to oversee the administrative and financial sustainability of the Hive Café Solidarity Cooperative at Concordia University (currently operating two locations; Downtown & NDG)
Financial and Administrative Responsibilities:
– Attends the cooperative’s Board of Directors and Finance Committee meetings when necessary
– Accounts payable and payroll in collaboration with other coordinators for both locations
– Act as a liaison with the government, auditor and bank for all financial and administrative issues
-Closing and developing monthly financial statements for both locations
– Develops a yearly budget to be presented at the annual general assembly and prepares a financial overview to be presented at a special general assembly.
– Develops financial analysis tools, as well as analyzes financial data and makes recommendations
– Communicates with Finance Committee and/or the BOD of any deviations from projected finances.
– Collaborates to develop and implement financial and administrative policy appropriate to the cooperative, its user-members, and its worker-members
– Provides recommendations to effectively manage productivity, labour, food and beverage costing and pricing
– Assists in costing and pricing a new menu to see the café transition from a mostly catered/pre-prepared menu toward a menu of items prepared on-site
– Integrates and configures point of sales system of both locations in collaboration with both location coordinators
– Administrates head office space, equipment, and archives
– Shares expertise, mentors others, and fosters a climate of experiential learning, growth and improvement, as well as ongoing personal and collective development
– Develops internal policy and how-to manuals with regards to finance and administration as necessary in order to insure a transfer of institutional knowledge.
– Continues their own education/training as required to develop and acquire new skills in leadership, hospitality, and food issues
– Recommends and implements new initiatives to keep up with demand and market changes
– Regularly communicates with the Board of Directors and helps implement the cooperative’s mandates
– Upholds and promotes the social, environmental, and economic sustainability of the café as outlined in the cooperative’s constitution
– Ensures the financial viability of the Hive Café and works in collaboration with the Board of Directors to ensure its financial sustainability.
Qualifications:
– A love of food, a passion for food sovereignty, and a firm belief in the importance of sustainability
– Excellent communication and listening skills
– 2 years of related experience in non-profit financial administration
– Familiarity with the cooperative business model
– Ability to function in a non-hierarchical environment
– Ability to balance effective leadership skills with power-sharing abilities in a communal decision-making cooperative structure
– Strong organization skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize workload, and multitasking
– Financial competence including a clear understanding of margins and pricing, ability to read financial statements, knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, productivity analysis, and inventory management/controls techniques
– Ethical conduct and responsibility; sets a positive example and fulfills responsibilities with the highest integrity, ethics, and professionalism
– Technologically proficient in basic computer skills and accounting software
