Youth and Philanthropy Initiative Canada is seeking a Manager, Communications and Stakeholder Relations to join our small, dynamic team. This new position is responsible for planning and delivering all communications and stakeholder engagement activities in support of YPI Canada’s strategic plan. You will bring the most senior communications expertise to our team, and work collaboratively with us and our network to understand, learn from, and make visible the depth and scale of impact created each year by our unique community of stakeholders: students, teachers, schools, charities, mission peers, and funding partners.
This new position has a lot of room for creativity and innovation, and is structured by our strategic plan, formal performance planning and supportive management, and clear objectives for each key performance area. You will report to the Executive Director, and have access to ongoing mentorship and advice from YPI Canada board’s standing committee on Marketing and Communications, and you will receive audio-visual, graphic design, and web design technical support in-house, or outsourced as needed.
Key performance areas:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan in support of YPI Canada’s strategic plan and stakeholder needs. Develop timelines and budgets for communications activities and products. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of communication plans, and revise as needed.
- Provide expertise, leadership, and recommendations on all aspects of communications, stakeholder relations, community engagement, and public relations.
- Drive increased awareness and enrolment among new schools through research, marketing, and communications i.e. advertising campaigns, direct outreach
- Steward YPI Canada’s funder relationships through quarterly communications, special engagement activities, and formal impact reporting. Maintain a calendar of impact reporting requirements for all funding partners
- Build strong relationships with YPI Canada’s participating charities through listening, focus groups, communications, impact reporting, collaborations, and special engagement activities
- Document and share the results of our network’s impact, peer collaborations, and special projects through digital arts and media, communications, and our annual report
- Engage with our mission peers and wider community, including through our website, blogs, media, and social media, to increase awareness and understanding of YPI Canada’s work and the impact of our network
- Write/coordinate press releases, media interviews, op-eds, blogs
- Coordinate the translation of materials (including the website) into French as needed
- Create and/or outsource high quality communication products including but not limited to digital, print products, and videos
- Write, edit, and maintain website content, ensuring it is current, accurate, and reflects the work and priorities of YPI Canada, and meets the needs of the various audiences. Note: Experience with WordPress is an asset but not necessary for this position. Technical support provided by YPI Canada’s Senior Officer, Technology and Administration.
- Ensure all communications products meet accessibility standards
- Maintain up-to-date records relating to communications and stewardship activities
Preferred qualifications and skills:
- Job experience: 4+ years professional experience developing strong stakeholder relationships and delivering communications plans for an organization or network
- Education: We will consider candidates with diverse educational backgrounds, including on-the-job training. A degree/diploma or formal training in communications, journalism, fundraising, media arts, or a related field will be an asset.
- Commitment to centring truth and reconciliation, anti-racism, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of YPI Canada’s work
- Necessary technical skills: Clear, engaging writing and storytelling skills; active listening and relationship focused; strategic, proactive communications planning; project management; social media (e.g. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc); experience with digital communications tools and software (e.g. Mailchimp, Salesforce, Adobe, others).
- Strong asset: Professional Working Proficiency (written and oral) in French. This position requires fluency in English.
- Comfortable with public speaking and representing YPI Canada at large events with multiple stakeholder groups (events are being held virtually during COVID-19)
- Asset: Insight and understanding gained from working with any of YPI Canada’s key stakeholder groups: young people (14-18 years old), secondary education (teachers, principals, boards), the non-profit/charitable sector, and/or formal philanthropy (e.g. foundations, CSR departments, and other grant-makers)
- Commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and to being a reflective practitioner
Salary: $60,000 per year, based on 37.5 hours per week
This position is remote/work from home anywhere in Canada, with the option to work from the YPI Canada head office in Toronto when it is safe to do so. Our entire team is working from home during COVID-19.
Open to negotiating a four-day work week.
