ABOUT CKUT

CKUT 90.3FM is a not-for-profit, campus/community radio station in Montreal. As a campus/community radio station, CKUT’s mandate is to provide an essential service to those in the Montreal community whose needs are not met by mainstream commercial and/or public radio. CKUT functions not only as an alternative to the status quo, but also as a viable community resource. CKUT serves as a training ground for the community and student populations, and in doing so provides an essential educational and informational service to the greater Montreal community.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Music Coordinator is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of $28,600 and four weeks of vacation per year. The ideal candidate will be comfortable wearing many hats: from developing relationships with local music communities to sharing in the station’s management, the Music Coordinator must be a dynamic self-starter with keen attention to detail. The Music Department aims to foster creativity and highlight the most innovative sounds from Montreal and beyond, so a forward-thinking mentality and sense of openness are key to excelling in this position. Working alongside the Music Librarian, the Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the department’s volunteer members, facilitating innovative and high-quality music programming, and partaking in shared collective management duties.

• Serve as a point person for all music industry contacts.
• Continue to develop the relationship between CKUT and Montreal’s wide variety of music communities.
• Ensure CKUT is adapting to shifts in technology and listenership, and actively work towards increasing the accessibility of our audio content.
• Support with programmer initiatives such as live remote broadcasts, special events, etc.
• Work alongside the Music Librarian to maintain and develop the station’s physical and digital libraries.
• Assist the Music Librarian in training and integrating new department members.

REQUIREMENTS

• Extensive knowledge of all genres of music, with a specific awareness of Montreal’s diverse musical scenes.
• Non-commercial radio programming experience, preferably at a campus/community station.

• Experience supervising volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds.
• Dynamic, self-motivated, and able to function well in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to prioritize tasks and delegate effectively while sticking to deadlines.
• Experience working in collective, non-hierarchical structures.
• Must be extremely organized and reliable.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Event organizing experience.

• Understanding of the music industry, particularly at a grassroots level.
• Comfortable facilitating and documenting meetings.
• Experience with physical and/or digital library systems, including iTunes homesharing.
