Programming and Campaigns Coordinator @ Centre for Gender Advocacy

About the Centre for Gender Advocacy:
The Centre for Gender Advocacy is an independent, student-funded, Concordia University organization, mandated to promoting gender equality and empowerment particularly as it relates to marginalized communities. This mandate is achieved through ongoing programming, campaigns, resources, services, advocacy and a commitment to accessibility.

Job Purpose Summary: To facilitate action, promote discussion and organize programming on issues pertaining to the Centre’s mandate in collaboration with volunteer-led campaigns and Action Groups.

Key Responsibilities:

Programming Coordination:
• Develop and implement a schedule of educational programming to be governed by the mandate of the Centre. This may include workshops, speaker series, panel discussions and screenings organized solely by the Centre or in collaboration with other organizations. (Responsibilities include arranging honoraria, space bookings, childcare, food etc.)
• Determine a schedule of events with other Coordinators and volunteers.

Campaigns Coordination:
• Work with staff, board and other volunteers to implement the Centre’s campaigns, including but not limited to coordinating public education forums and other awareness raising and lobbying strategies such as marches and vigils.
• Develop and maintain contacts with local area coalition groups, associations and organizations.
• Organize and attend campaign meetings. Provide support to volunteers as they develop and practice their organizing skills.
• Determine schedule of events with other campaign volunteers; generate forward motion in each campaign.

General Coordination:
• Liaise with the Administrative Coordinator to develop and maintain a programming and campaigns budget.
• Work with the Outreach Coordinator to advertise events and campaigns.
• Support volunteer involvement around existing programming or campaigns, as well as support the creation of additional volunteer projects (assist with logistics etc.)
• Develop contacts with the media, act as a media spokesperson and prepare and distribute press releases.
• Liaise with student & community organizations to build alliances around common mandates.

Action Groups Liaison:
• Collaborate with Action Group volunteers as appropriate towards the mandate of the Centre and the goals of the Action Group; ensure they have adequate access to resources.
• Oversee Action Groups’ budget(s) in collaboration with the Administrative Coordinator.
• Meet with current Action Groups as needed.
• Perform Action Group assessments annually.

Shared Tasks
All permanent staff are expected to:
• Self-educate around the Centre’s Mandate and Vision
• Respect their co-workers and foster a supportive environment that allows for each coordinator to carry out their jobs to the best of their abilities
• Seek feedback from other staff members, board members, and Centre volunteers on a regular basis
• Staff the office(s)
• Maintain a clean and inviting office space.
• Complete timesheets and staff reports regularly in a timely manner
• Participate in annual staff evaluation process.
• Attend board meetings whenever possible
• Attend AGMs & SGMs where possible and applicable.
• Assist board of directors with their training(s) if requested
• Participate in committees as required.
• General outreach and community building

Required skills and and qualities:
• Able to work well both independently and collaboratively in a non-hierarchical, feminist, anti-racist environment.
• Experience with community organizing, especially relating to feminism, anti-racism and Indigenous solidarity.
• Familiarity with Concordia University (including groups, people, and locations)
• Experience with managing and working within a budget
• General computer skills and familiarity with various social media platforms
• Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills
• Media experience
• Public speaking experience
• Self-motivated, resourceful, and organized with excellent time management skills
• Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Highly organized
• An active sense of humour!

Assets:
• Familiarity with the Centre for Gender Advocacy and its priorities, principles, and activities
• Familiarity with community organizing in Montreal
• Spoken and written French
• Flexibility with hours
• Ability to multi-task
• A creative mind

Contract Duration: This is a one-year renewable contract with a 3-month probation period.

Salary and Benefits: $19.48/hr for 35 hrs/week. 4 weeks of paid vacation and
 health benefits after the 3 month probation period.
