Girls Action Foundation seeking Programs Officer (Summer paid internship)

Girls Action is looking for 2 people between the ages of 15 and 30 to support our work this summer.

What does GIRLS ACTION FOUNDATION do?
Founded in 1995, Girls Action Foundation works at four levels:
1. Our girls’ initiatives provide spaces for girls to speak out, build skills, and create action on issues that are important and real to them.
2. Our national leadership program offers long-term investment and support to young women who are change-makers in their communities.
3. Our practitioner network is made up of over 300 groups working with girls in diverse communities across Canada. We offer coaching, training and networking opportunities as well as participation in our ongoing programs and special projects.
4. Girls Action provides a national voice on issues related to girls’ empowerment, including national partnerships, research, publications and contributions to public discourse that help advance the movement for girls’ wellbeing.

Eligibility

To apply one of these 2 positions, you need to be:

– Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
– Registered as a full-time student during the last school year;
– Intending to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP, vocational or technical program;
– A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;

Primary responsibilities would include some of the following:

Program Support:
• Support your Program Manager in the planning and development of programs for girls and young women and the organisation of special events for our network.
• Support your Program Manager with reports, filing, research and other tasks as needed.
• Contribute to program conception by researching issues related to girls and healthy living, mental health promotion, prevention of violence and racism, healthy relationships, anti-bullying, community involvement and media literacy.
• Support the development of promotional materials for our programs, including writing, editing and translation as needed
• Edit and proof-read documents English and/ or French.

Communications Support:
• Adapt and translate fundraising and outreach material in French or English.
• Edit and proof-read documents English and/ or French.
• Help optimize our systems related to data management and data integration.
• Update data related to contacts, proposals, campaigns and donations using Girls Action online donor data base and donor communications systems.
• Support the development of creative and engaging outreach material for a variety of supporters (partners, donors, participants).

Desired skills and qualities:
• Skilled writer and editor, in French or English, and the ability to communicate in both official languages.
• Demonstrated commitment to Girls Action’s mission and feminist, anti-oppressive values and practice.
• Excellent organizational skills and great attention to detail.
• High degree of computer literacy.
• Ability and experience of working autonomously and as a part of a team.
• Resourcefulness, flexibility and the ability to learn and adapt on the job.
• Experience with a donor database (or CRM) such as Salesforce or Raiser’s Edge is an asset.
• Experience with online tools such as mailchimp and surveymonkey is an asset.
• Knowledge of facilitation and popular education approaches is an asset.

Terms:
Located in the Girls Action Foundation office in Montreal, this is a 14-week contract, beginning late May, 2015. Salary: $13-14 per hour for a full-time position.
