About the QDF
The Quebec Drama Federation exists to support English-language theatre companies, artists and their artistic expressions in Quebec. This support manifests itself through leadership, collaborations with partners and stakeholders in the community, mobilisation, promotion of the artists and companies, professional development and identification of the role of theatre in the community at large. It also provides resources and means through which success and recognition of English-language theatre companies and artists in Quebec, to the rest of Canada, and on an international scale, is achieved.
QDF exists to cultivate a strong and vital theatre community where artists are recognized as integral parts of the theatrical cultural milieu of Quebec, and as a major contributor to the stability of arts and culture in Quebec and beyond.
Description of programming:
Founded in 1972, and working from its headquarters in Montreal, The Québec Drama Federation (QDF) is a non-profit organization that serves the English-speaking theatre community in Quebec. We deliver a range of activities that address the needs of some 101 theatre companies (professional, independent and community-based) and more than 275 individual theatre practitioners. These activities include: organizational and professional development workshops, provide access to English information and referral regarding English-language theatre practice and resources, develop and facilitate live and digital discussion forums, the development and distribution of the quarterly Theatre Calendar, the planning and presentation of Theatre Season Launches, supporting the planning and presentation of the Montreal English Theatre Awards (METAs) and are working towards creating a digital platform for promotion and audience education as it relates to the practice of English-language theatre in Quebec. Its work also aims at expanding the network of presenters and venues available to the English-speaking communities of Quebec. These activities help to enhance the visibility of Quebec’s English-speaking theatre community, enhance the connections between English-speaking Theatre practitioners and audience, and strengthen the ability of English-speaking theatres artists in Quebec to work and live in their own language.
