The Street Work program aims to enable marginalized youth in NDG to meet their basic needs through the support of a harm reduction approach. Street Workers at Head & Hands adhere to the Street Workers code of ethics, and act as a bridge between individuals and services at Head & Hands, institutional and community partners.
The Street Work Coordinator is a new position that aims to provide administrative and human resources support to the Street Work team, and represent the values and needs of the program within Head & Hands.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
On-Site Street Work Support
Build Head & Hands staff and volunteer capacity around responding to client questions around gear use and Head & Hands’ harm reduction approach
Purchasing and distributing bus passes/tickets for approved clients
Provide backup to Street Workers for accompaniments
Program Administration
Managing Head & Hands’ inventory of harm reduction in conjunction with the Health Services Coordinator
Supervise Street Worker team and Street Work Projects
Managing budget
Designing and supervising Street Workers’ logs
Completing Street Work Program statistics for Fundraising team (monthly)
Coordinate and lead weekly Street Work team meetings
Community Outreach
Serve as a member of ROCQTR (http://attrueq.org/rocqtr/)
Coordinate referrals & liaise with other organizations to build strong network for Street Work (incl shelters, detox, etc)
Facilitate or coordinate workshops in the community as needed (in collaboration with Street Workers)
Serve as a member of the Table Jeunesse
Attend meetings of other relevant coalitions such as TOMS, GCPC, etc
Head & Hands Collective Duties
Maintain Street Work trainings & approach accountability in other H&H services
Attend weekly staff meetings (Tuesdays 1:00pm – 4:00pm)
Being supervised
Attend Annual General Meeting
Attend 2-3 additional Head & Hands events per year
REQUIREMENTS & ASSETS
Requirements:
Minimum 2 years experience of Street Work
Work experience or lived experience of drug use, homelessness, sex work, and/or criminalization
Experience in crisis intervention
Deep understanding of the chronic strain or stress of being marginalized, including: racism, homophobia, transphobia, poverty, living with disability, transmisogyny
Deep understanding of the specific issues facing youth
Active listening skills
Fluently bilingual (English and French), both oral and written
A commitment to harm reduction and anti-oppression principles
Commitment to Head & Hands mission and approach
Ability to work autonomously
Demonstrable strength in administration, including time-management, program development, reporting, and organizational skills
Experience in human resources, particularly supervision of multiple colleagues at once
Assets:
Experience and/or post-secondary education in at least one of the following areas: health promotion or research, social work, counselling
Experience working with youth
Experience working in a community organization and/or non profit
Experience working in a collective structure
Experience working with Batshaw and/or DPJ
Experience working in a collective and/or non-hierarchical structure
Salary: $18/hr + yearly increase, 34 hours/week
