Summer Day Camp Counsellor @ Saint Columba House

Work Location: Pointe Saint Charles, Montreal – Saint Columba House, 2365 Grand Trunk, H3K 1M8
Salary: $12 per hour
Schedule: Full time (40 hours/week), June 16th – July 28th 2017
Hours: 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday

The Saint Columba House Day Camp is an affordable and bilingual day camp that caters to the specific needs of local families and the community of Pointe Saint Charles.

Tasks and Responsibilities
• Participate in a one week training session and contribute to the evaluation of training to ensure its yearly success and development
• Along with a co-animator, be responsible for the safety and well-being of a group of 15-20 children
• Plan and animate activities for children that build on community engagement, including: learning about their community’s history, people and places; and participating in fun and meaningful activities that contribute to their community
• Promote good physical health through stimulating recreational activities and outings
• Promote social and emotional well-being through team-building and cooperative activities
• Ensure that camp activities, projects and outings are appropriately adapted to include children with a variety of special learning and participation needs
• Participate in the supervision, training and evaluation of the counselors-in-training
• Prepare for and actively participate in staff meetings twice per week
• Participate in post-camp evaluations, inventory and clean-up

Candidate Profile
• Bilingualism: candidates must have good English and French written and verbal skills
• We encourage the application of candidates who have studied in areas related to education, recreation and leisure, therapeutic recreation, social services, and special care counseling
• Ability to work with children of diverse backgrounds both individually and in groups
• Experience working with children with special needs as well as children with behavioural, socio-emotional and/or learning difficulties
• Strong group management skills
• Experience animating activities for children
• Ability to work both independently and as a team, to take initiative and responsibility, to demonstrate creativity and flexibility
• Must be a full-time student for the 2016-7 year and returning to full-time studies in the Fall
