Projet Bleuet aims to equip educators, counselors and child care providers with tools to build supportive environments in summer camps, childcare and other extracurricular youth programs by creating and facilitating training workshops centered on anti-oppressive practices. These workshops promote the social and emotional development of children and youth as well as their mental health and are based on anti-oppression and universal design.
Job Summary
The three primary responsibilities of the workshop facilitator and coordinator will be to liaise with summer camps across Montreal, setting up meetings to discuss the needs of these summer camps in terms of anti-oppressive practices and support, facilitate workshops on three themes created by Projet Bleuet, and assist in developing additional workshops.
Workshops Summary
The first workshop is titled “Managing Challenging Behaviors in Summer Camps”. This workshop includes components that promote education about consent as a means for conflict resolution, introduces active listening as a tool to support the needs of children and presents methods to prevent or manage challenging behaviour.
The second workshop trains counselors to coach sports and develop sports activities that are inclusive to all abilities and that promote the wellbeing of children.
The third workshop focuses on literacy around various forms of discrimination that children may experience, especially in the context of Montreal. It comprises two sections, one that introduces the notions of racism, colonisation, and culture, how they intersect with gender, class and other identities, and the second section discusses homophobia, transphobia and how gender roles and stereotypes can limit children’s growth and self-expression.
