Youth Worker / Intervenant(e) @ SAINT COLUMBA HOUSE

Location: 2365 Grand Trunk, Pointe Saint Charles, Montreal
Hours: 16 hours per week
Schedule: Monday-Thursday 2:15-5:15pm; staff meetings: Tuesdays, 1:15-2:15pm; 3 hours of prep time per week (flexible)
Dates: September 5th 2017 – June 8th 2018 (excluding holidays and certain pedagogical days)
Salary: $13 per hour

Description
• Develop supportive relationships with a group of youth at-risk in grades 5-6 and their families
• Plan and animate programming that provides a wide variety of learning opportunities in preparation for the transition into high school
• Provide individual support, encouragement and follow-up to all youth
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all youth

Responsibilities
• Plan and animate a variety of activities to develop academic and organizational skills
• Supervise and assist youth with their homework
• Help youth develop a positive attitude towards learning and become independent learners
• Plan and animate activities which provide opportunities for social-emotional learning
• Plan and supervise outings to local high schools, community spaces and other activities or events
• Develop and implement individualized learning plans and intervention plans when needed
• Support and integrate volunteers into the program, including older youth completing work training or community service programs
• Communicate regularly with caregivers and include them in program activities, decision-making and interventions
• Assist with monthly family activities and other events
• Attend training sessions and staff meetings

Knowledge and Skills
• Bilingualism: candidates must have strong English and French written and verbal skills
• Ability to work with children both individually and in groups
• Experience working with children with challenging behaviours and/or socio-emotional difficulties
• Sensitivity towards children with specific needs, including learning and/or developmental delays
• Strong group management skills
• Experience animating activities for youth
• Ability to work both independently and as a team, to take initiative and responsibility
• Capacity to manage stress, to be flexible and adaptive, to problem solve and to seek guidance when needed
• Familiarity with the community of Pointe Saint Charles (an advantage)
