Swing dance classes and events in Montreal for over 25 years

Communauté Cat’s Corner is looking for a new co-director to lead its thriving community as it becomes established both in its new home in the Centre-Sud neighbourhood and in the social economy sector in Montreal.
Cat’s Corner has been around for over 25 years in Montreal but only recently became a non-profit organisation in 2023. The artistic and pedagogical direction has been well established over the last few years, and currently there is a need to build a strong administrative and operational foundation for stability and growth in our new context.
Our mission is to build community through the practice of jazz & blues dances by offering classes and events that are accessible to all Montrealers regardless of age, income or identity. Together we learn, PLAY, improvise, connect and deepen our collective understanding of jazz & blues dance and music, including the Black culture and community from which they stem.
Role and responsibilities:

Managing registrations
Budget management
Management of Accounts payable and receivable
Strategic and financial planning
Drafting of funding applications

Event coordination
Class programming and scheduling
Employee and volunteer management

Communications et marketing:
Customer service
Communications management (social media, newsletters, etc)
Website management
Sales representation
Partnership creation
Outreach and growth


Relevant Experience :

Team management (experience managing volunteer teams an asset)

Experience with non-profit organizations (an asset)


Bilingual English and French (written and oral)
Knowledge of Google and Meta suites
Knowledge of Squarespace (an asset)
Knowledge of the following software (an asset): Amilia SmartRec, Canva, Square payments, Slack, Quickbooks
Public speaking and media relations

Other qualities:

Demonstrated interest in swing dances and its cultural origins
Commitment to inclusive and anti-oppression practices
Strong communication skills
Availability during high season activities (preparation and execution of class registration in early January and September)
Collaborative, Flexible, Decisive

Work conditions :

Permanent full time position
Flexible schedule including evenings & weekends (the schedule can be defined between co-directors)
Hybrid work
4 weeks of vacation per year (including one week break during the december holidays when the school is closed)
Salary of $40,000 per year (Cat’s Corner has newly become a non-profit organisation and intends to raise wages over the coming years, conditional on securing grants and funding opportunities or increased revenue growth through classes and events)
Start date: Summer 2024
