COCo offering 2 workshops on power this summer

COCo will be giving 2 workshops on power this month.

If you’re attending the Institut du Nouveau Monde’s Summer School (August 13-16) in Montreal, you’ll have the occasion to catch COCo’s bilingual workshop on power (August 14 2:30 pm in room EDUC 624), titled “Le pouvoir et notre rôle dans le monde / Power and our role in the world”. Read the description below or on the INM website.

A similarly themed but slightly different workshop will also be given at the People’s Social Forum in Ottawa (August 21-24), August 21st 10:45-12:15 in room FSS 7035. For the full program click here

Workshop description:

This workshop is an exploration of personal relationship(s) to power and how it impacts the world we live in and contributes to structural inequality. For example, we will discuss concepts such as: privilege, power, competing histories, space & voice in the context of our daily lives.  The workshop’s objective will be for participants to become more mindful and aware of when they have power and when they don’t on a day-to-day basis. We will also come up with concrete options for when we are living those situations.

Follow up (August 22nd): Check out this article in French about our workshop at the l’École d’Été de l’Institut du Nouveau Monde written by Karina Sanchez, who participated as a young journalist in the Communications and Citizen Media stream this year.
