CALACS de Sept-Îles, La pointe du jour – COCo working across the province!
Our colleague Pascale Brunet of the Organizational Development and Training Coordination team took a trip to Sept-Îles to facilitate our Courageous Conversations workshop at CALACS de Sept-Îles, La pointe du jour. Tune in to Côte à Côte to hear Pascale speak about this work!
The Courageous Conversations workshop was originally developed as part of the Diversité d’Abord research project, which focuses on racism in Quebec’s nonprofit sector.
A recurring theme in the Diversité d’Abord research data is that when people seek accountability for problematic situations, the conversation is either sidelined or completely shut down. People then feel marginalized, and the issues remain unaddressed. Research has shown that, over time, people of colour end up leaving their jobs or their involvement in the community sector.
That said, these dynamics permeate and shape our society. Collectively, we have few tools to deal with differences, tensions, and conflicts… even though these are such normal dynamics among human beings.
It was CALACS de Sept-Îles, La pointe du jour, that invited COCo to facilitate the workshop for their team. The workshop was adapted to the realities of CALACS, but the objectives remain the same:
- Build collective capacity to have courageous conversations;
- Reflect on the elements that make a conversation complex and fragile;
- Reflect on the difference between danger and discomfort;
- Encourage introspection to better understand our limits and capabilities.
